Fire hits building in Quiapo as Black Nazarene procession reaches climax

MANILA, Philippines – A fire hit a building along Ramon Hidalgo Street near the Quiapo Church in Manila Wednesday evening, alarming Black Nazarene devotees at Plaza Miranda.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) National Capital Region (NCR), the fire started around 8:38 p.m. and was immediately put out as of 8:52 p.m.

No fire alarm was raised, BFP NCR said.

At least two fire trucks were seen trying to make their way through Quezon Boulevard which was overflowing with people joining the Black Nazarene feast at Quiapo Church.

Investigators are still on the scene trying to determine the cause of the fire and what was damaged.
