Provincial police chief clueless on ‘jueteng’ angle in Quezon shootout
MANILA, Philippines—Reacting to reports that the illegal numbers game “jueteng” had something to do with the alleged shootout in Quezon province on Sunday, which killed 13 persons including three policemen and three soldiers, the highest police official of Quezon province said Tuesday that he had no idea of the angle.
“Wala tayong alam sa angle na ’yan, hindi tayo privy,” Quezon provincial director, Senior Superintendent Valeriano de Leon said in an interview with Radyo Inquirer. De Leon was asked about the alleged jueteng money that the group was said to be transporting during the gun battle along Maharlika Highway in Atimonan, Quezon, last Sunday.
Without mentioning exact figures, De Leon said there was some money recovered from the suspects after the incident, “pero hindi gano’n kalaki.”
