FORMER Cebu City Vice Mayor Vicente “June” Kintanar Jr. passed away yesterday morning. He was 73.
His son, Boobi, said his father “died a peaceful death”.
Several close friends said Kintanar suffered a heart attack.
Kintanar left behind his wife, Paula “Lee” Boholst and four children : Sheldon, Han Christopher, Niel Richard and Carla.
A vigil is behing held at the Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes in Nivel Hills.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said he was sorry for the loss of a former colleague at the city council whom he described as a freedom fighter who was firm in taking a stand.
He said Kintanar “would have been a good congressman.”
Rama yesterday directed his staff to coordinate with the city council in preparing a necrological service for the late city official.
A native of Argao town, Kintanar was a radio broadcaster who started his career as an English/Cebuano newscaster for dyVM from 1960 to 1964 before transferring to dyRC from 1964 to 1968.
From working as radio commentator and news director, Kintanar became the station manager from 1974 to 1978.
In 1975, he was elected president of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) – Cebu chapter and occupied the position until 1980 when he decided to seek a seat in the Cebu City Council. Kintanar garnered the most number of votes.
After his term as councilor ended in 1983 he became Cebu City’s vice mayor in 1983 and stayed in this position until 1986.
