A CEBU City Hall employee and two construction workers were arrested after they were allegedly caught stealing scrap metals and construction equipment from a mall which is being constructed at the South Road Properties (SRP) in barangay Mambaling.
Danilo Wamelda, 33, was caught driving a boom truck owned by the Cebu City government. Loaded in the truck were scrap iron, acetylene cutter, gas and an oxygen tanks owned by WTG construction, police said.
Also arrested were Wamelda’s alleged cohorts Giovanni Aleonar, 27 and Melchor Balansag, 50, both workers of WTG Construction.
Police said Aleonar and Balansag were spotted by a security guard gathering something inside the compound of SM property at Gate 3 of SRP past 1 a.m. yesterday.
The security guard later found the boom truck driven by Wamelda loaded with items owned by WTG.
Wamelda worked as a driver of Cebu City’s General Services Office.
It was possible that Wamelda was about to deliver the items to a junk shop when they were apprehended, SPO3 Sean Colobio of the Mambaling police said./Correspondent Tweeny M. Malinao
