Man in black kills vendor in Quezon City
A man in black shot and killed on Wednesday night a female vendor while she was tending to her makeshift stall at a footbridge in Quezon City.
Raymala Avelino, 30, of F. Manalo Compound in Barangay (village) Immaculate Conception, was declared dead on arrival by doctors at Quirino Memorial Medical Center after she was shot once in the back of the head.
The shooter, described by a witness as dressed in a black shirt and a black ball cap, immediately fled afterward. PO2 Alvin Quisumbing of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said the shooting happened at 7 p.m. on Wednesday on the footbridge at the corner of Edsa and Aurora Boulevard in Cubao.
According to Quisumbing, Avelino was busy selling her wares to passersby when a man approached her from behind and shot her at close range in the head. As the victim keeled over, the gunman quickly fled. Avelino’s fellow vendors tried to save her by bringing her to the nearest hospital but their efforts failed. The case investigator said the motive for the attack remained unknown.—Jeannette I. Andrade
