San Beda gains share of lead
THE REIGNING champions San Beda Red Lions gained a share of the lead in the standings as they crushed the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 103-62, in the 87th NCAA basketball tournament yesterday at the Arena in San Juan City.
Seemingly angsty after narrowling escaping an inferior St. Benilde squad last time out, the wards of head coach Frankie Lim responded to the challenge headed by Garvo Lanete, who exploded for 32 points, eclipsing his former high of 30. The younger brother of pro guard Chico Lanete shot a torrid 13-of-20 from the field.
The Red Lions started to distance themselves from their opponents in the second period as they outscored the Generals, 32-16, in the second period to put up a 52-35 lead at the break. Things just went all downhill for EAC afterwards as Lanete continued his stellar shooting while turnovers for the Generals were easily turned into layups that eventually erected a 71-41 lead at the end of the third.
