JKA sets karate belt promotional exam

THE Japanese Karate Association (JKA) will conduct its quarterly belt promotional examination tomorrow, July 31 at the City Sports Club Ayala.

Around 70 students from the different JKA chapters in Cebu and the black belts from Bohol and Iligan will take the exam.

Senior instructor Antonio Diluvio said the promotional exam will measure the mastery of the students in martial arts. It is also a step to another karate belt level.

The exam has three levels: kihon, which consists of punching, kicking and blocking; kata, a sequence of offense and defense movements; and kumite or sparring, the application of the basic movements and the kata.

It will start at 8 a.m. and end at noon.

The examinees will be judged by the association’s senior examiners.

The event, which is open to the public, is in coordination with Dahlia Espinosa and JKA chief instructor Vic Luna. /UP Masscom student Christine Estrella
