Fire hits Army headquarters

MANILA, Philippines–A fire of an unknown origin swept through an office at the Philippine Army Headquarters in Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City early Sunday, causing about P30 million in damage.

The fire broke out at the right wing of the Army Support Command (ASCOM) at 12:14 a.m. and was put out at 1:40 a.m., a statement from the Army said.

The incident destroyed some office equipment and administrative files of the command, it added.

Segeant Rodeline Sobrapena, the enlisted personnel on duty, sustained a minor hand injury and was treated immediately at the Army General Hospital inside the camp.

The cause of the fire were still being investigated by a team from the Bureau of Fire Protection in Taguig.

The ASCOM will relocate at Camp Servillano Aquino in San Miguel, Tarlac City.
