Former guard killed in Lapu attack

A FORMER security guard was killed while a woman was wounded after two motorcycle-riding men shot at a group of people talking by the road in barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City.

No motive has been established yet  for the  killing of  Anecito Granada, 46, who was shot in the  abdomen, chest and right arm.

Josie Torres, 49, who happened to be passing by  was hit in the right leg by a stray bullet.

Granada was declared dead when he and Torres were brought to the Mactan Doctors’ Hospital.

Police said Granada was talking with his cousins and friends past 9 p.m. Thursday when a motorcycle with two men on board stopped near them.

The backrider started firing. A wounded Granada slumped on the ground while the other people scampered for safety.

Police conducted a follow-up operation but failed to locate the assailants.

Police said no one was able to jot down the plate number of the motorcycle used by the assailants as the people in the area scrambled to take cover.

Police recovered five empty shells of .45 pistol in the crime scene.

SPO1 Allan Pantaleon, homicide investigator of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, said they are still investigating the attack.

Granada’s relatives told police that they couldn’t think of a possible motive for the attack. They said the victim had no criminal records and was known to be a good man in the barangay.  The victim stopped working as a security guard a few months ago./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
