MANILA, Philippines—President Benigno Aquino III has given executive clemency to eight inmates.
Justice Secretary Leila De Lima on Friday said six of the eight inmates were given conditional pardon with parole while the sentences of the two others have been commuted.
The six who were given conditional pardon were Agustin Caballero, 71; Nicanor Medel, 72; Clarita Miranda, 71; Pablito Estrada, 73, Felipe Gahit, 72 and Venerando Generaldo, 83; while the penalty imposed against Aurelio Amolong and Celerino Sanchez have been reduced.
For humanitarian reasons, the President usually grants executive clemency during Christmas or the Lenten Season.
The names were chosen upon the recommendations of the Board of Pardons and Parole.
