A MAN considered the most wanted person in Lapu-Lapu City was arrested after a brief shootout with police in barangay Bangkal yesterday.
Demetrio “Onyot” Malingin, 38, was wounded in the right leg.
He is the main suspect in the killing of his relative, Roy and Prima Aying and was tagged a level two drug pusher by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, said Chief Insp. Conrado Manatad, chief of the Mactan police precinct.
Roy Aying was killed in November 2011. Prima, wife of Roy’s brother Jerry, was killed when her house was strafed in June 28.
Demetrio’s brothers Jay and Deo were allegedly involved in the attack but remain at large, police said.
“We are thankful for the arrest of Demetrio. The death of my mother will be finally given justice,” said Jonathan, 21, son of Jerry.
At least 10 Mactan policemen rushed to sitio Fire crash after receiving a report that Demetrio was hiding there.
Police surrounded a house fenced with bamboo and tried to convince Demetrio to surrender.
Police said Demetrio fired at them and ran out of the house.
PO2 Butch Christopher Tanghal, who was positioned behind a multicab, shot Demetrio.
Slumped on the ground, Demetrio continued firing at policemen but he could no longer run with a gunshot wound in the right leg.
Police said they seized from Malingin two loaded caliber .45 pistols, 10 packs of suspected shabu worth P100,000 and P16,500 cash./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
