Greenhills, Panagdait march to final of J Centre hoop

GREENHILLS and Panagdait thrashed separate challengers in the playoff Sunday at the HoopStars’ Lord of the Rings – Battle of the Villages at J Centre Mall, and advanced to the championship in the 19-under teens and adult-open categories that starts tomorrow.

Both teams maximized their twice-to-beat advantage when Greenhills trounced Palm Heights, 85-58, and Panagdait crushed San Vicente Village, 88-62.

Johner Espina led Greenhills, firing 11 of his 17 points in the first quarter including three treys backed by Mark Kong who added 8 of his 12 points in the tournament presented by Jonie’s Flavored Chicken.

Wisdom Ceniza took charge in the second quarter, scoring 9 of his 13 points while Kevin Iboña added 6 of his 11 markers as Greenhills took a commanding 47-16 lead at the half.

Meanwhile, Ramonito Maano led Panagdait’s win in the adult-open game scoring 10 points including three triples in the first quarter. Panagdait also limited San Vicente’s key shooter Joaquim Giacobbe Go to just 11 points.

Neil Agustines and Lester Ong stepped up for Subangdaku’s pride, scoring 20 and 17 points but the AirPhil Express-backed players were  outmatched in rebounds.

DO-OR-DIE

Meanwhile, challengers Casuntingan Batzz Boys and Summerville forged separate do-or-die matches against Bakilid I’s St. Paul College (SPC) and Agro-Macro Subdivision, respectively, in the series backed by Dunkin’ Donuts.

Casuntingan overpowered Bakilid-SPC, 79-68, with Jeffrey Perater, Paul Fritz Lanado and Carl Patindol scoring 25, 22 and 20 points, respectively. Roberto Jayme paced SPC with 29 points.

Summerville on the other hand, nipped Agro-Macro Subdivision, 61-56 with Franco Cipriano scoring 12 points. RJ Acha paced Agro-Macro with 21 markers in their playoff match made possible by Dragon Fireworks. /pr
