Duty cop nabbed in Laguna over illegal drugs

CAMP PACIANO RIZAL, Sta. Cruz, Laguna—A police desk officer was arrested in a buy-bust operation on Thursday evening in Biñan City, Laguna, police said on Friday.

Arresting officers recovered a sachet of suspected “shabu”  (methamphetamine hydrochloride) and marked money amounting to P1,000 from PO2 Albert Ocampo, said Senior Supt. Gilbert Cruz, Laguna police director, in a text message.

Cruz said police from the Laguna Special Task Group arrested Ocampo at around 7:30 p.m. while he was on duty.

Police, however, have yet to confirm if the arrest was made in Barangay Malaban, a known lair of illegal drug activities, as investigation is still continuing.

“We had to do something about it,” Supt. Leo Luna, Biñan City police chief, said by phone, after police operatives acted on a tip about Ocampo’s involvement in the illegal drugs trade.

Luna said Ocampo was turned over to the Laguna provincial police office and would face criminal and administrative charges that may lead to his dismissal from duty.
