Majority agree with governor’s suspension
Majority of those who responded to a Cebu Daily News poll believe the ongoing six-month suspension of Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia is justified.
The online poll which commenced on Dec. 21 had 308 responses as of 5:30 p.m. On Dec. 23, 2012 it had 190 respondents (61.49 percent) saying Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia deserves the suspension; 108 (34.9 percent) said the suspension is a “power grab;” 10 (3,24 percent) said it is “politics;” and 0.32 percent clicked “other”.
The CDN poll posted in its blogsite www.cebudailynews.wordpress.com asked readers what they thought of the suspension meted by Malacañang against Governor. Garcia.
Respondents were given four choices:
– “The governor deserves the suspension and she should respect the Palace order and avail instead of legal remedies like a TRO”;
– “It is a case of ‘power grabbing’ by her political enemies and is clearly politically motivated due to next year’s elections”;
– “It is an election/political issue and thus should not be a cause of alarm so long as essential services to the public and sustainability of operations of the Capitol are ensured.”
The 4th choice – other – gives the respondent a chance to state his or her thoughts.
In the blogsite, Clarence said: “Madam Garcia, please set an example to follow the rule of law. you been holding power for so long under this rule of law. anyway, it is so hard to adjust a lifestyle wherein for quiet a long time you are surrounded with helpers paid by peoples money and now no more. please face the consequences.”
Rejtatel said: “She was found guilty after hearing so the decision bears the presumption of regularity. She should react squarely and seek available judicial remedies not cry wolf.
“The accusation vs against her is serious she cannot just sweep it under d rug and brand it politically motivated. Enough with the theatrics madam. Just face the music.”
On Twitter, Nilo Dipos said: “Yes, it’s about time these local government officials learned to obey the law rather than act like a Feudal Lord once elected.”
Others on Twitter were looking for the copy of the suspension order decision which was submitted to President Benigno Simeon Aquino III by the late Interior and Local Government secretary Jesse Robredo.
