TWO students from the Ramon Teves Pastor Memorial Dumaguete Science High School (DSHS) emerged as the champion in the Philippine National Science Quiz (PNSQ) held recently at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
Fourth-year student Alec Benjamin Ramirez and third-year student Hannah Jael Cadusale bested other teams from 20 secondary schools all over the country, said Gilber Arbon, provincial director of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
The Dumaguete City team coached by DSHS teacher Lourdes Lee represented region 7 after having won in the regional quiz competition.
The DSHS team took home P30,000 cash, a medal of recognition, a trophy for the school, and a plaque of recognition for the coach.
The Philippine Science High School (PSHS)-Western Visayas campus placed second, while PSHS-Southern Mindanao campus finished third place.
The Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) conducted the science quiz in 15 regions of the country, in collaboration with the Department of Education and DOST regional offices, to enhance awareness, understanding and interest of the Filipino youths on nuclear science and technology and its beneficial applications.
The quiz was in line with PNRI’s celebration of the 40th Atomic Energy Week (AEW) with the theme: “Nuclear Science, Technology and Innovation: Engine for Growth and Development.”
The annual AEW celebration aims to generate awareness of the Filipino people on the beneficial uses of nuclear technology.
