Teen girlfriend drinks perfume in alleged suicide
MANILA, Philippines – An allegedly lovelorn teenager died in a hospital late Thursday night, an hour after she drank a bottle of perfume inside her home in Manila.
Rosie Buela, 18, of Gate 2 Parola Compound in Tondo, was declared dead at around 11 p.m. by attending doctors at the Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Hospital.
Senior Police Officer 2 Virgo Villareal, of the Manila Police District homicide section, said Buela downed the perfume, which doctors said led to her death.
Villareal revealed that before the incident, Buela arrived home at around 10 p.m. and was observed by her 33-year-old live-jn partner, Juan Sibay, to be “unusually silent.”
While Sibay slept, Buela stayed up smoking until her live-in partner was roused from sleep by her continuous coughing. An empty perfume bottle lay beside her.
Alarmed by her condition and worried over her complaint of difficulty in breathing, Sibay decided to bring his partner to the nearest hospital.

Villareal said Buela may have been driven to suicide by rumors that her live-in partner was already married. He pointed out that based on Sibay’s statement, Buela seemed depressed since she heard the rumors.
