MANILA, Philippines – The number of casualties from Tropical Storm “Juaning” (International name: Nock-ten is up to 41 with nearly 800,000 persons affected, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Friday.
In its latest situation report issued Friday morning, the NDRRMC said that 28 persons were killed in Region 5 (Bicol) alone while four persons were killed in Region 4A (Calabarzon), another four in the Cordillera Administrative Region. Meanwhile, in Regions 3 (Central Luzon), 4B (Mimaropa), 6 (Western Visayas), 7 (Region VII) and the National Capital Region had one casualty each, the NDRRMC said.
The fatalities added to the list were Julius Miranda, 23, of Barangay (village) Bantug, Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija who died after being hit by a fallen tree; Lourdes Cañata, 40 of Balsa, Malinao, Albay; Salvacion Nebreja, 65, who was hit by a fallen tree in Camalig, Albay; Jessica Abinal, 13 and Domingo Lomitao, 45, who died due to drowning and; Alvin Chavez, 2, and Aljun Chavez, 3 who both died due to drowning in Guindahap Monreal, Masbate.
Meanwhile, Amando Molto, 28, who died due to a heart attack in Barangay Sogod, Tinambak, Camarines Sur, was removed from the list since the death was not related to Juaning, the NDRRMC said.
Still missing are 24 persons, including 19 fishermen in FB Hope Christy, which capsized last Wednesday.
Juaning made landfall in Casiguran, Aurora Wednesday morning and exited through the West Philippine Sea Thursday morning.
