MANILA, Philippines – Another tropical cyclone was seen east of Northern Samar early Friday a day after tropical storm “Juaning” wrought havoc in parts of Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
In its weather forecast, Pagasa said that the latest weather disturbance tagged “Kabayan” (international name: Muifa) was seen 840 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar, packing maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 100 kph. Kabayan was forecast to move west northwest of 15 kph.
No storm signal warnings were raised, Pagasa said, as Kabayan was too far away to affect the country.
Meanwhile, the western section of Luzon will have monsoon rains enhanced by Juaning. The rest of the county will be mostly cloudy with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms, Pagasa said.
“Moderate to strong winds blowing from the Southwest will prevail over the western section of Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the South to Southwest with slight to moderate seas,” Pagasa said.
