Motorcycle hits truck; 1 dead

/ 10:59 PM December 20, 2012

The driver of a motorcycle was killed Thursday morning while his two passengers were injured after the former drove into the back of an 18-wheel truck on the southbound lane of President Osmeña Highway in Makati City.

Apparently unaware that the traffic light had already turned red, Donald Lau, 22, continued to drive his motorcycle until it hit the back of the truck being driven by Teofilo Arellano, 28, at 4:20 a.m. One of Lau’s back riders, Francis Asperon, was rushed to Pasay City General Hospital while the other one, Glenn Duran, suffered just minor injuries.

The motorcycle, on the other hand, was wrecked. Arellano said he had just stopped at the intersection of Osmeña Highway and Arnaiz Avenue after the light turned red when he heard a loud crash behind him. He and his companion, Leopoldo Parabia, 35, quickly rushed to the back of the truck and saw the victims sprawled on the road.
