Liloan, Talisay spikers lead men’s division in GUV Cup

THE spikers of Liloan are off to a fast start as they racked up two straight wins in the premier men’s division in the 2012 Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup late Tuesday evening at the Cebu International Convention Center in Mandaue City.

With the semifinals fast approaching this weekend, Liloan is making a beeline towards a spot in that stage of the tournament by first defeating Ronda, 25-14, 25-12 and then Asturias, 25-14, 25-20 for a share of the lead in the standings over in group A.

Talisay, the reigning champions, matched Liloan in the standings after beating Bantayan in straight sets, 25-17, 25-19. The two powerhouse teams are tied at the top of the leaderboard with identical 2-0 (win-loss) records.

he top two teams from each bracket will advance to the semifinals slated this weekend at the same venue.

Over in group B, Carcar notched its second win in as many games after it got past Sta. Fe, 25-16, 25-17 for the early lead in the standings. Last year’s runners-up, Mandaue, kept abreast by posting a 25-18, 25-16 win over Moalboal while Toledo humbled Sta. Fe by the score 25-0, 25-0. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
