Adamson routs UE for third victory

THE ADAMSON University Soaring Falcons grabbed a share of second place in the standings after they blasted the University of the East Red Warriors, 85-54, in the 74th UAAP basketball tournament at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City yesterday.

The win was the Falcons’ third in a row after getting beaten by Ateneo during the opening day. It put their record at 3-1 (win-loss), the same as the Far Eastern University Tamaraws.

Veteran guard Lester Alvarez spearheaded the Falcons’ assault with 16 points built on four triples. Explosive wingman Alex Nuyles added 11 points.

An 11-0 run at the start of the game set the tone for the rest of the match which turned out to be one-sided as most of the Red Warriors’ matches have been this season. The lead reached a high of 35, 75-40, after Roider Cabrera drained a triple with just six minutes left.

The Falcons were just ahead by 12, 39-27, at halftime but they pulled away in the third period, which they started with a 10-0 run anchored on Nuyles’ outside sniping. They eventually outscored the Red Warriors in that stretch, 27-11. Adamson pinned UE to their fifth setback in as many starts. Correspondent Jonas Panerio
