Boy claims escape from abductors

A 14-year-old boy from Toledo City was turned over to the Fuente  police station after he said he  “escaped” from  kidnappers in Carbon in barangay Ermita, Monday afternoon.

Dindo, (not his real name) is a second year high school student in Toledo City.

He told  police that while he was outside his school last Monday morning, two unidentified men abducted  him and forced him to ride a black Mitsubishi car with plate number GXB-384.

The purpose of the alleged abduction was not clear.

Cebu Provincial Police Office chief Senior Supt. Partocinio Comendador said the boy may have run away or skipped school and made up the story about being kidnapped as  an alibi when he decided to  go home.

In a separate interview, the boy’s father said his son could not have run away from their home. He said it was a normal day for them when he sent his son to school last Monday morning.

Dindo told police  that his  hands were tied by three men  wearing bonnets in the car which left Toledo city and arrived at Cebu city past 3 p.m. in an area with a big tarpaulin marked “Welcome to Carbon”.

About 3 p.m., said Dindo, the kidnappers went out of the car.

This time he managed to untie his hands and escaped and went near ERmita’s seasore and later to a donwtown mall.

The  high school student said he went to the skywalk near Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) in the evening where he was able to borrow a sidewalk vendor’s cellular phone  to send text message to his parents about his ordeal.

Dindo said his father  later called to tell him that   his uncle working in the city would pick him up.

They agreed to meet  downtown.

Dindo said he had another companion tied inside the car when he escaped Monday afternoon. The boy’s claims will be further investigated, said Senior Inspector Chuck Barandog, chief of the Fuente police station. /Chito O. Aragon, Correspondent with reports from Correspondent Joy Cherry S. Quito
