More indigent seniors receive social fund

MORE poor senior citizens in Central Visayas are receiving monthly social pension from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

This was bared by DSWD-7 Specialist for Older Persons Artemia Degamo.

A total of 14,164 senior citizens from the 132 towns and cities regionwide have been receiving their monthly subsidy of P500 since January 2011. The number of social pension beneficiaries this year has increased by 22 percent representing 2,762 seniors all over the region.

The DSWD has allocated more than P84 million to serve all its beneficiaries.

The DSWD advised senior citizens who are qualified but have not availed of the pension to visit the nearest social welfare office in their locality.
