Davis Cup members for Phl-Syria match known this Saturday

TENNISTERS who will comprise the Philippine Davis Cup Team that will face Syria in the upcoming Philippines-Syria Davis Cup Tie Asia-Oceania Zone Group II will be finalized this Saturday during the Philippine Tennis Association get-together Christmas party.

This was announced by Randy Villanueva, Philta vice president, during last Monday’s launching and presscon of the Davis Cup 3, which will return to Lapu-Lapu City this February.

Villanueva said being considered for the team are Treat Conrad Huey, Philippine no.1 Johnny Arcilla, Jeson Patrombon, Ruben Gonzales, Elbert Anasta and Francis Casey Alcantara.

Huey is now ranked no.35 in the ATP doubles world ranking while Arcilla just recently clinched his seventh PCA Open title.

Unlike the matches against Japan and Chinese Taipei, the Philippines is a little bit favored against Syria, said Villanueva.

He added that the Philippines and Syria have played against each other in the Group III stages, but this will be the first time that the two countries will meet in a home-and-away format Group II Tie.

Should the Philippines survive Syria, it will go on to meet Thailand.
