Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz on Tuesday urged all private-sector employers to observe the pay rules and other labor rules during the 2012 Christmas and New Year holidays.

“In the interest of workers’ welfare and protection, I urge you to pursue labor standards-based excellence by observing the pay rules and other core labor and occupational safety and health standards on 24, 25, 30 and 31 December 2012 and 1 January 2013,” Baldoz said in a statement.

Based on President Aquino’s proclamation, Christmas Day (a Tuesday) and Rizal Day (a Sunday) are regular holidays while Dec. 31 (a Monday) is a special nonworking day.

The President has also declared Dec. 24 (a Monday) a special nonworking day throughout the country while New Year’s Day (a Tuesday) is a regular holiday.

To implement the presidential declarations, Baldoz has issued Labor Advisory No. 5, Series of 2012, setting the pay rules for the regular holidays of Dec. 25 and 30, 2012, and Jan. 1, 2013, and the special nonworking days of Dec. 24 and Dec. 31, 2012. Philip C. Tubeza
