Police nab man with gun

POLICE arrested last Sunday afternoon a 48-year-old man, who was caught carrying a gun in barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City.

Police responded to a call for assistance from residents who reported a drunk man, who kept aiming a gun at anybody he met at the street and challenging them to a fight.

Police said people were frightened and barangay tanods couldn’t arrest the man because he was armed.

When police arrived, they negotiated with Caayon to give up and succeeded in convincing Caayon to surrender.

He also gave up the gun his  .45 caliber Norinco pistol.

He told police the gun was owned by his a businessman-cousin. He claimed that the gun was a licensed firearm, which was later confirmed by police.

Caayon was also brought to the Mandaue City Hospital where he underwent a liquor test.

He was later brought to the Casuntingan police station and detained pending the filing of illegal gun possession charges./Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
