THE belles of Talisay City remain in hot pursuit of the long-coveted championship in the 2012 Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup as they entered the semifinal round as the top seed following their thrilling conquest of Liloan in group A of the women’s competition yesterday at the Cebu International Convention Center in Mandaue City.
Denied the title for two years running already, there seems to be no stopping Talisay in its bid for redemption.
They cruised through the elimination round without a single loss after dropping Liloan behind the efforts of Florian Gutierrez, Ivy Abella and Shaira Cabriana, 20-25, 26-24, 25-14.
The win pushed Talisay to the semifinal round slated Friday, where they will face the loser of the match between the defending champions Mandaue City and Catmon, in group B. That game was still being played in as of this writing.
The men’s division games were also being competed in as of press time with Talisay looking to maintain its dominance. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
