Reforms to go on in PNP—Purisima

Incoming Philippine National Police Director General Alan Purisima on Sunday vowed to continue the reform programs of his predecessor, Director General Nicanor Bartolome.

Purisima, who takes his oath as the 18th PNP chief before President Aquino on Tuesday, summed up his reform agenda for the 148,000-strong organization as “CODE P”—competence, organizational reforms, discipline, excellence and professionalism.

“I think we need these qualities for us to meet the expectations of the communities. We will also work on bringing the PNP closer to the people,” he told the Inquirer.

Purisima was a member of the Presidential Security Group that guarded Mr. Aquino’s family during the military coups in the administration of his mother, President Corazon Aquino. Marlon Ramos
