Motorcycle-riding couple crushed to death by truck

A motorcycle-riding couple were crushed to death on Saturday evening by the wheels of an oil tanker in Quezon City.

Moises Caneba Jr. and his wife Leonida, both 48 years ago, were rushed by concerned bystanders to Malvar General Hospital. However, they were declared dead on arrival.

The driver of the tanker, 44-year-old Teudy Gallaza, gave himself up to authorities after the accident.

Senior Insp. Erlito Renegin, head of the Quezon City Police District traffic sector based in Camp Karingal, said the accident happened at 6 p.m. on Saturday on Elliptical Road near Commonwealth Avenue in front of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) compound.

According to Renegin, the couple were on a motorcycle and headed toward North Avenue.

As they passed by the PCA building, Gallaza’s tanker collided with the couple’s motorcycle, causing the two-wheeled vehicle to fall over.

The couple fell to the ground, directly in front of the truck.

“The driver of the tanker apparently did not see the motorcycle on the right side of his truck,” he told the Inquirer.

The police said they would charge Gallaza with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and damage to property in the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
