Mandaue wins opener in Unity Cup 12-under division
IT was the kids’ turn to shine as the Gwen Kids 12-under division of the 2012 Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup got underway with the defending champions, Mandaue City, getting their title defense off to a great start with a, 25-15, 25-15 victory over Sta. Fe late Friday evening at the Cebu International Convention Center in Mandaue City.
Despite the loss of several of their key players, Mandaue remained on track to maintain the city’s dominance of the sport in this prestigious tournament. The belles of Mandaue are also favoured to win it all in the women’s division and have so far, managed to remain undefeated.
In other games, Compostela walked over Bantayan, 25-0, 25-0 while Moalboal tallied a 25-8, 25-15 win over Tabuelan. Catmon also downed Talisay City, 25-14, 25-14 even as Tabogon scuttled Carcar, 25-13, 25-19. Finally, Asturias defeated Alegria, 25-17, 25-14. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
