Tracksters from the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. member schools put up a lopsided show in yesterday’s action in the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) meet at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).
Athletes from the University of Cebu (UC), Southwestern University (SWU), University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) and University of San Carlos (USC) almost swept all the gold medals at stake yesterday, leaving only one for Bohol after the whole day competition.
UC collected five golds yesterday led by the wins of Ernesto Ybañez and Irin Baluran in the long jump and triple jump events, respectively. Other gold medalists were Darl Pitogo (110m hurdles), Jason Higanto (discus throw) and Roy Villahermosa.
USPF contributed via Lorna Olarita and Khenly Parcon, who won in the 400-meter and 200m runs, respectively. Daryl Maños added a gold medal in the 1,500m run while teammate Kennick Alivio ruled the shot put event. Ronnie Andrin of USPF also won a gold medal in the 10,000m run.
Former University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) athlete Vlesica Jagna, now an athlete of USC, dominated the 800m and 1,500m runs while teammates Diane Arche and Kresha Mae Ygot chipped in golds via the shot put and 400m hurdles.
SWU helped Cebu PRISAA after winning three gold medals courtesy of Rolan Batiancila (800m run), Jodel Batarilan (3,000m steeple chase) and Princess Baroc (discus throw).
The lone Boholano who won a gold medal was Teodelyn Calabroso, who placed first in the 3,000m run.
Cebu PRISAA actually harvested a total of 22 gold medals yesterday but most of the results were still being tabulated as of this writing. Tournament officials said results will be given out today. PRISAA consultant Danilo Villadolid said most of events finished yesterday except for basketball and boxing.
According to Lyle Larida, the official tabulator of the meet, they will be officially selecting the athletes for PRISAA 7 today as track and field competition ends this morning. The team that will be formed after this competition will compete in the national finals this February in Pangasinan.
