MANILA, Philippines—A retired policeman running for councilor was shot dead in Masbate province Friday afternoon, police said.
Superintendent Renato Bataller, Bicol police spokesman, said retired Chief Inspector Vicente Aragona was at his house in Barangay (village) Tonga in Balud, Masbate around 1:30 a.m. when he was attacked by three still unidentified gunmen.
Bataller was hit in different parts of the body, but it was clear if he died on the spot or on arrival in hospital.
Aragona was said to be running for the municipal councilor position in Masbate.
