The Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating a complaint filed by the wife of a Quezon City prosecutor, who is in a sex video with a lawyer-colleague that is circulating on the Internet.
Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said Thursday the complaint against the prosecutor, whom she did not name, ended up in the DOJ after the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office inhibited itself from investigating the case.
The woman in the video is supposedly a lawyer in the Public Assistance Office (PAO) in the Quezon City Hall of Justice.
De Lima said she was told the sex video was made before the husband became a Quezon City prosecutor last October. At the time, he was also a lawyer in the same PAO office as the woman.
According to Prosecutor General Claro Arellano, the sex video was taken a year ago.
For De Lima, the “central issue’’ here is “the merit and fitness of a person to function as a public prosecutor.’’
“That means living up to the highest standards of integrity. The sex video is a collateral issue that demonstrates the emergence of the use and abuse of technology,’’ she said in a text message to reporters.
