City Council won’t block Rama’s bonus scheme

THE Cebu City Council will not stand in the way of City Hall employees enjoying a P20,000 bonus promised by Mayor Michael Rama.

Councilor Margot Osmeña, chairman of the budget and appropriations committee, said they were informed that there is no need to pass a third supplemental budget to fund the promised bonus for the employees.

She said the city government will just have to realign the allocation on certain items in the budget.

Rama earlier announced a plan to give the city government’s 5,000 employees a P20,000 bonus a reward for their hard work especially when the city hosted the national thanksgiving celebration for the canonization of San Pedro Calungsod last Nov. 30.

Osmeña said they are still awaiting word from the mayor’s office on how to start the process.

Councilor Alvin Dizon said they need input from the Mayor’s Office before drafting a resolution to be approved by the Council for the fund release. /Correspondent Caryl Baylon
