A couple tagged in a multi-million peso pyramid scam that victimized teachers in Manila surrendered to Cebu police last Thursday.
The couple identified as Danilo and Janet Gujilde said they turned themselves over to the Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG) after getting death threats. The couple stayed in barangay Lahug, Cebu City.
The couple faced charges of large scale estafa in Quezon City. An arrest warrant was recently issued against them by Maasin Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Bethany Kapili, said Chief Insp. George Ylanan, RSOG chief.
The couple said the estafa case they face in Maasin City has nothing to do with the pyramid scam they were implicated in in Manila.
Ylanan said a complaint filed against the couple in Quezon City accused them of swindling teachers of their savings amounting to P400 million.
He said the couple convinced the teachers to invest in a school supply business they were supposedly running. Janet said they only received P13 million from the victims.
Janet pointed to another person, a female resident of Fairview in Quezon City, as the mastermind.
Janet said the woman claimed to be a supplier of hotel and spa materials in Manila.
Aside from teachers, other victims of the finance scam included parents and government employees from Fairview, Quezon City. Correspondent Chito Aragon
