Teams urged to enlist early for Sinulog football tourney

Football clubs are urged to sign up early for the 3rd Sinulog Football Festival slated Jan. 12 and 13 next year.

Tournament chairman Francis Ramirez said they might be limiting the number of participants since they are still negotiating to hold the football festival in two separate venues.

Ramirez said the University of San Carlos Technological Center (USC-TC) will be one of the venues but they are still negotiating to make the football field of the San Roque Football Club (SRFC) the other one.

Last year’s edition of the tournament gathered more than 180 teams and was also held at the USC and SRFC fields.

This year, organizers are targeting about 200 teams to see action.

Ramirez also confirmed that no matches in the 15th Aboitiz Football Cup will be held on Jan. 12 and 13 to avoid scheduling conflicts.

He added that many teams have expressed interest in seeing action including a team from Zamboanga but none have confirmed their participation yet.

All those interested are requested to send two representatives to attend the first coaches’ meeting this Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Cebu Football Association (CFA) located beside the main entrance of the Cebu City Sports Center.

Deadline of submission of entries and payment of the registration fee will be on Jan. 5.

The tournament will have the same categories as last year—players 6, 8 and 10; boys 12, 14 and 17; girls 14 and 17; inter-BPO, ladies open, men’s open and the 38-and-above. All categories will be 7-a-side except for players 6 and 8, which will be 5-a-side. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
