SC to study plan to decentralize admin tasks

MANILA, Philippines—The Supreme Court will conduct a study on the possible decentralization of its administrative functions with regards to lower courts.

During Tuesday’s full court session, the high court designated Associate Justice Jose Perez to conduct a needs assessment of decentralization. Perez was designated to head the group that will conduct that study being a former Court Administrator.

The Office of the Court Administrator is tasked with the supervision and administration of the lower courts and their personnel. It reports and recommends to the Supreme Court all actions that affect lower court management, personal and financial administration and administrative discipline.

“The members of the court are of one mind on the merits of decentralization and have agreed on measures to ensure its effective and deliberate implementation,” the high court said in a statement.
