Mom seeks readers’ aid for tot

Margaux Chloe Llarenas’ mother admitted it was not easy raising P4.5 million for the liver transplant of their 1-year-old baby who was born with biliary atresia, a rare disease of the liver.

It means that Llarenas’ liver does not have bile ducts, so that the bile builds up within and destroys her liver.

“I didn’t think this could happen to my baby,” said Maricon Torres of Calbayog City.

“In the beginning, it was hard to accept, but if this is happening for a reason, who are we to question what has happened to her?

“We can only ask assistance from charitable and compassionate souls out there,” she said.

Torres added that she was hoping they could raise money for a transplant for Margaux, one of her two children with partner Jan Marie Llarenas, an Internet shop assistant.

The operation will be performed at The Medical City by liver transplant surgeon Dr. Vanessa de Villa.

The doctor is a former member of the pediatric liver transplant team at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, where Filipino patients are usually referred for liver transplants.
