MANILA, Philippines—A jobless man ended up behind bars in Quezon City after he allegedly kept his teenaged lover away from her family for nearly two weeks.
Savino Abad, 38, of NIA Road, Barangay (village) Pinyahan, Quezon City, was arrested on Saturday afternoon in Barangay South Triangle after his 14-year-old girlfriend complained at the Kamuning police station.
The case investigator, SPO1 Virginia Surban, said the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office recommended charges against Abad for violation of Republic Act 9262, or Violence against Women and Children Act, and Article 271 under the Revised Penal Code on inducing a minor to leave home.
The case for abduction with rape and illegal detention was set for preliminary investigation.
Surban said the suspect and the victim were in a relationship for three years and that on Nov. 26, the girl went with him to his house and did not come back to her family.
However, the girl had control of her cell phone and was able to tell an older sister of her whereabouts.
The victim decided to leave her lover and come back home on Saturday when the latter’s wife began hurting her.
Abad was arrested that same day after his young girlfriend lodged a complaint with the police.
