Poll bet shot dead in Masbate
NAGA CITY—Two men riding on a motorcycle shot dead a candidate for councilor in the mining town of Arorot in Masbate on Sunday.
Edwin Amaro, 40, a candidate of the Nationalist People’s Coalition in the 2013 midterm election, was also the chair of Barangay (village) Luy-a, police said.
The killers shot Amaro all over his body with .45-cal. pistols in front of his house at around 6:30 p.m., according to Senior Supt. Heriberto Olitoquit, Masbate police chief. Amaro died on the spot, he said.
Olitoquit said he had formed Task Force Amaro to investigate the killing, which, he added, could be politically motivated. Jonas Cabiles Soltes, Inquirer Southern Luzon
