Teen stabbed dead by would-be burglar

A teenager was stabbed and killed Sunday morning after he accidentally caught a group of thieves trying to break into a house in Quezon City.

Eighteen-year-old Jefferson de Dios died due to a lone stab wound in the armpit after one of the still unidentified burglars attacked him.

De Dios’ companion, Albert Altajeros, suffered minor injuries after he stumbled when the thief ran after him and the victim.

Police Officer 2 Julius Cesar Balbuena of the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said the stabbing happened around 3 a.m. Sunday near a sari-sari (retail) store on Dahlia Street, Barangay (village) Pagasa, near the victim’s house.

According to Balbuena, De Dios and Altarejos were walking home from a drinking spree when they decided to relieve themselves in the street.

As they did so, they noticed a man lurking in the shadows near the store.

The policeman said that Altarejos, who had a flashlight, shone it in the direction of the suspicious-looking man. The man, however, turned out to be the lookout for a group of burglars. He pulled out a knife and lunged at Altarejos who ran away. The thief then attacked De Dios before the former fled with his cohorts.

Balbuena said that although the teenager was stabbed, he managed to go home and seek the help of his family in bringing him to the nearest hospital. De Dios, however, was declared dead on arrival by attending doctors at East Avenue Medical Center while Altarejos was slightly wounded when he tripped as he was running away.
