At least 10 injured by firecrackers on Colombia bus

CALI, Colombia – Firecrackers exploded on a bus in Colombia, injuring at least ten people, including three children, authorities said Saturday.

At least four of the people were seriously injured.

The incident occurred late Friday when a passenger placed a suitcase containing the firecrackers too close to the vehicle’s engine, causing heat from the motor to set them off, John Wilson Rengifo, mayor of the town of Candelaria, told AFP, citing witness accounts.

The explosion happened as Colombians celebrated Night of the Candles, a tradition during which hundreds of thousands of people take to the streets to light candles and set off fireworks and firecrackers.
