28 people arrested in Spain for child pornography

MADRID—Officials say 28 people have been arrested in Spain on suspicion of being linked to an international child pornography network operating in Europe and Canada.

The investigation began when Interpol told Spanish police in April about a network headquartered in Toronto, Canada, dedicated to the sale of child pornography videos. Spain’s Interior Ministry said Saturday that the videos were created by abusing minors in Ukraine, Romania and Germany.

The recordings have been sold through three websites and distributed in 94 countries, netting an estimated annual income of $1.6 million, the ministry says.

In addition to the 28 arrested in Spain, 10 other Spaniards have been charged with offenses, the ministry says.
