THE Boaracay Rum Waves snapped their five-game slump, thanks to the crunchtime shot making of Roider Cabrera and Toto Bandaying, as they defeated the Jose Rizal University, 63-53, in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup yesterday at the Trinity University of Asia gym.
Cabrera had 16 points while Bandaying made two three pointers in the final canto that anchored a 12-2 run which ensured the win.
In the other game, Cebuana Lhuillier rallied from 12-points down with a huge third quarter and defeated Erase Xfoliant, 92-74.
Jopher Custodio scored 13 points and Paul Sanga, who replaced guard Rex Leynes in the lineup, had 10 as the Gems outscored the Erasers, 33-7, in the third to change the complexion of the game and bounced back from last week’s 82-86 loss to Cagayan Valley.
Custodio eventually finished with 25 points, June Dizon had 15 and Mark Sarangay had 14 rebounds as the Gems manhandled the Erasers off the boards to improve to a 3-3 (win-loss) record.
It was a tough loss for the Erasers, who enjoyed a 45-33 advantage at halftime but went 3-of-18 in the third and never recovered from there.
Jett Vidal scored 18 points and Marlon Gomez had 15 for the Erasers, who suffered their third straight loss and fell to 2-4. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
