DZIQ: Congress still accepting evidence in Ombudsman impeachment —solon

MANILA, Philippines—The House of Representatives is still accepting evidence and witnesses to testify in the impeachment trial of Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez, Bayan Muna partylist Representative Neri Colmenares said in a Radyo Inquirer interview Thursday.

“We would be happy to get additional evidence,” said Colmenares.

Colmenares said that the prosecution panel for the impeachment trial, scheduled to start on May 9, was now complete comprising of Representatives Rodolfo Fariñas, Niel Tupas Jr., Lorenzo Tañada, Boy Umali, Kaka Bag-ao, Elpidio Barzaga, Magtanggol Gunigundo, Miro Quimbo, Jose Jun Abaya and Raul Daza.

Gutierrez has been impeached by the House for betrayal of public trust over her alleged inaction on scandals involving former President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, such as the fertilizer fund scam, the “Euro Generals” and the NBN-ZTE deal.
