MANILA, Philippines — An Air Force soldier was found dead with a gunshot wound to his head inside the barracks at Camp Aguinaldo early Thursday, the military said.
Airman First Class Jason Reporsado, a soldier from the Military Police Company, was immediately rushed to the V.Luna Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival, said Armed Forces the Philippines spokesman Colonel Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr.
Soldiers rushed to Reporsado’s room when they heard a gunshot and found him lying on his bed with full of blood.
Burgos said they presumed the incident was “accidental,” based on the accounts of the witnesses.
“Una walang reason na na ito ay nakipagagawan ng baril, may kaaway or what. Second wala rin namang silang nakikitang dahilan na nababanggit na may problema para magpakamatay so initially ito pero all angles are being considered,” he told reporters.
The Philippine National Police has started conducting site investigation, while the soldier’s family were already informed of the incident, Burgos said.
“The AFP is also conducting parallel investigation to ascertain the cause and details of the incident,” he said.
