A suspected robber was reported to be in critical condition after he was shot by two policemen who went after him after he and his three cohorts snatched the necklace of a bus passenger in Makati City on Tuesday.

A Makati police report identified the alleged thief as Danilo Briones, 34, a resident of Barangay (village) Highway Hills in Mandaluyong City. He sustained gunshot wounds on the abdomen and left leg. According to the report, Briones is confined at the Ospital ng Makati where he is scheduled to be operated on.

He was shot around 3 p.m. on the southbound lane of Edsa, corner Estrella Street, after he and three other men took the necklace of a bus passenger who had gotten off at the intersection.

Fina Cecilia Angel, 24, a nurse at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City, shouted for help and caught the attention of two police officers who were also on the bus. Police Officer 1 Moises Aquines, an officer stationed at Camp E. Navarro in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, and Resti de Lunas, a Camp Crame policeman, told investigators that when they were about to grab the escaping suspects, one of them took out a gun and fired at them.
