East Rembo tops awardees of gender-sensitive program

A program emphasizing the role of fathers in the family and strengthening relationships within the family  through responsible parenthood was named winner in the first ever search  for the “Most Gender Responsive Program” in Makati City.

Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay and the city’s gender and development (GAD) council awarded P30,000 to officials and residents of Barangay East Rembo for “Campamilya,” the name of the winning program.

Besting 33 other  entries, “Campamilya” also underscored the needs of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the family.

Seminars, lectures and group activities aimed at fostering values formation, team building, sharing of responsibilities in the home and in the community, among others, were the main features of the gender-sensitive  program.

Binay lauded winning barangay officials for “effectively adopting GAD in their development projects.”

He also recognized the concerted efforts of the residents of winning barangay to ensure the success of their programs.

Barangay Post Proper Southside’s “Balik Aral Scholarship Program” won second place while Barangay Sta. Cruz’s “Anak Mo, Kalinga Ko (Child-Minding Center) Project” placed third.

GAD technical working group chair Ryan Barcelo said  the “Balik Aral Scholarship Program” “provides a monthly allowance of P500 to out-of-school youth and members of poor families to encourage them to go back to school.

The “Anak Mo, Kalinga Ko Project” of Sta. Cruz, on the other hand, aims to provide an  alternative care program to help both working and unemployed parents.

Barcelo said that they judged the programs based on gender responsiveness, positive impact, promotion of people’s participation and empowerment, innovation, sustainability and efficiency of program service delivery.
