Suspected holdup man wounded in Makati shootout

MANILA, Philippines—An unidentified gunman was reported injured in a shootout with policemen minutes after he robbed the passengers of a bus in Makati City Tuesday afternoon.

The still unidentified man allegedly shot it out with police officers on the southbound lane of Edsa-Estrella around 2:55 p.m., Police Officer 1 Oliver Mejia said.

Mejia said initial information showed that the encounter occurred after the man allegedly robbed a passenger bus boarded by some police officers.

“It wasn’t clear, however, if the man died, but responding officers said he was badly wounded,” Mejia said. He added that the suspect had been rushed to the Ospital ng Makati-Pembo.

Meanwhile, Vincent Lizada of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority-Metrobase, said the man was observed to be around 35 to 40 years old and about 5’5” tall.
