DIGOS CITY, Philippines—At least 15 houses on the shoreline of a coastal village in Don Marcelino town, Davao del Sur were damaged Monday night after being battered by huge waves churned by Typhoon “Pablo,” the provincial disaster response office said Tuesday morning.
Roderick Milana, provincial disaster risk reduction management chief, said huge waves started to develop in Barangay Lindasan as early as 6:30 p.m. Monday, as Pablo approached Mindanao.
Seven of the houses, built from light materials, and a wooden paddle boat, were swept into the sea, Milana said.
Milana said huge waves also developed in Jose Abad Santos town, another coastal town adjacent to Don Marcelino.
Residents living near the shorelines had been evacuated and no casualty had been reported so far, he said.
